International Study
One of the unique features of the PhD in Education Program at the Graduate School of Education (GSE), Nazarbayev University, is the International Study.  In the second year of their studies, PhD students visit the University of Pennsylvania, GSE’s strategic partner, for an eight-week intensive semester abroad. During this visit, students gain access to a wealth of academic resources, including the extensive Penn Library, personalized working sessions with the Penn-GSE Faculty and education librarian, and opportunities to network with various members of the Penn community. They also participate in numerous academic and social activities, including workshops and conferences being hosted at the university. Additionally, students attend a series of seminars specifically tailored to their research interests, led by renowned Professors Matthew Hartley, Peter Eckel, and Alan Ruby. This immersive experience not only broadens their academic perspectives but also serves as crucial preparation for their Qualifying Exam in the Spring Semester. After successfully passing the exam, students begin developing their dissertation proposals. By engaging with leading scholars, researchers, and PhD students at Penn-GSE, the PhD students refine their research methodologies and develop stronger critical thinking skills. The exposure to diverse academic environments also enhances their leadership capabilities, empowering them to take on future roles in academic and educational leadership.
