The Graduate School of Education (GSE), as part of Nazarbayev University (NU), operates under a unique legal status established by the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan through the law “On the Status of Nazarbayev University, Nazarbayev Intellectual Schools, and Nazarbayev Fund” dated January 19, 2011, No. 394-IV. This law grants GSE institutional autonomy, academic freedom, and a governance structure independent of national educational requirements and frameworks.
NUGSE is currently pursuing international accreditation for its three programs: MSc in Leadership in Education, MA in Multilingual Education, and PhD in Education, through the UK’s internationally recognized
Quality Assurance Agency (QAA), a full member of the
European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ENQA), which serves as the umbrella organization for quality assurance agencies across the European Higher Education Area.
NUGSE has successfully completed the application stage by demonstrating that our three programs meet the eligibility criteria. We are now in the review stage, preparing a self-evaluation document (SED) supported by relevant evidence, and we anticipate a site visit from the accreditation committee in 2025. This review offers an opportunity for our programs to showcase compliance with the QAA accreditation standards, specifically the 10 Standards and Guidelines for Quality Assurance in the European Higher Education Area (ESG). Upon successful completion, NUGSE programs will achieve
international program accreditation.
The
Office of the Provost’s Institutional Effectiveness provides GSE with the university’s
Academic Quality Framework, a key document that outlines the institutional approach for establishing and maintaining quality assurance standards. This framework also serves as a driving force for quality enhancement across all levels.
