Project Summary

The project “Developing strategic directions of educational reforms in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2015-2020” is implemented by the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education and internationally recognized scholars in order to provide policy recommendations to the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the further development of national education policy.
The goal of this policy study is to conduct an overall diagnosis of the education system of the Republic of Kazakhstan in order to identify its strengths and weaknesses and to define directions for further modernization across all the sectors. This project aims to provide analytical support and development of specific recommendations for effective implementation of the State Program of Education Development in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2011-2020, taking into account the best international practices.
Leading international experts in the field of educational policies at every level – preschool and secondary, technical and vocational, higher education – were invited to participate in this project.
For example, to work on the preschool and secondary education such experts as David Bridges, Peeter Mehisto, Colleen McLaughlin, Mary Jane Drummond and Chloe Gayer-Anderson were invited. Vladimir Gasskov was engaged at the level of technical and vocational education. Higher education includes such experts as Dennis Jones, Aims McGuinness, Joni Finney, Mary Canning, and Darcie Harvey. In addition, the project’s Steering Committee was created, which aims to identify a common vision for its development, editing of the main directions of the project groups and coordination of their activities at various levels of education.
