NUGSE alumni Zhuldyz Amankulova and Dr. Laura Karabassova win a grant from the US Embassy in Kazakhstan

NUGSE alumni Zhuldyz Amankulova (PhD Candidate at the University of Minnesota) and Dr. Laura Karabassova (postdoctoral scholar at NUGSE) as part of the team of scholars from the University of Minnesota Twin cities have been awarded the U.S.-Kazakhstan University Partnerships Program grant, funded by the U.S Embassy in Nur-Sultan. The University of Minnesota-Twin cities will be collaborating with the South Kazakhstan University named after M.O.Auezov (SKU) to develop strong and sustainable English integration professional development activities for SKU’s English and STEM faculty. The project will facilitate cross-curricular links between faculty and equip them with innovative teaching approaches and methods.

It needs to be noted that the above-mentioned project has been among the top 13% selected among a large number of applicants to the U.S.-Kazakhstan University Partnership Grants. All applications were thoroughly reviewed by a selection committee composed of representatives from the U.S. Department of State’s South and Central Asia Bureau, U.S. Embassy in Nur-Sultan, and American Councils for International Education.
