‘Making education inclusive’: NUGSE, Chevron and Dara Foundation launch a large-scale inclusive education project.

Today 3,000 school and nursery teachers in all regions of Kazakhstan have started training in a three-week program to prepare for teaching in an inclusive environment. The program was developed by an international team of professors - experts in inclusive education of the Graduate School of Education of Nazarbayev University and is implemented jointly with Dara Charity Foundation in partnership with Chevron company.

The Project "Making education inclusive" will contribute to achieving the goal of the state program for the development of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2020-2025 - to make all schools in the country inclusive.

The number of children with special needs and disabilities included in the general school environment is growing in Kazakhstan, which strives to support global principles of access to fair, affordable and quality education and inclusive values. However, this process is rather slow, and research shows that although teachers believe in the successful implementation of inclusive education, they often resist including all children, especially those with severe disabilities, in the learning process with their peers.

Our school has the best team of experts on inclusive education in Kazakhstan. Together with specialists from Dara Foundation, which is known for its work on the development of inclusion, they developed a training program for the teachers who, in the transition to inclusive education, will need support, professional development and development of special skills. We hope that our new project will quicken the process, and will not only equip teachers with the necessary skills but also attract more attention to this very important project!
