Project Introduction

The Project focuses on the following research objectives:

  • examining academic management as an essential condition for ensuring the quality of education;
  • researching standards and procedures for management and quality of education in the Republic of Kazakhstan, given the integration of education, science and industry;
  • examining the current state of management in universities.

Research Methods

The research team conducted surveys among university students, faculty and higher education administrators. The qualitative data was collected alongside the examination and critical analysis of literature and secondary data.

Major Findings

Universities have their own organizational structures, in which there is a certain potential for the development of shared governance. In many universities, the management system still has the predominant ‘top-down’ nature of the power hierarchy. In some universities, the influence of the rector is dominant. This negatively affects the quality of debates and discussions needed for effective decision-making. The analysis presented in the study reveals the need to study the development of the system of shared governance. The major findings were presented in the project-based publications indicated below.
