Vanessa Ozawa, a GSE 3rd-year PhD candidate and research assistant at PEER Network Central Asian hub, presented online at Institute of Education (IOE), University College London

On February 24th, Vanessa Ozawa, a GSE 3rd-year PhD candidate and research assistant at PEER Network Central Asian hub, presented online at Institute of Education (IOE), University College London, from where she holds an MA. Vanessa, who examines the relationship between educational processes and Uzbekistani youth national identities and recently completed her doctoral fieldwork in Tashkent, was invited to present her methodologies and fieldwork experiences to the students of the MA programme, Education and International Development: Conflict, Emergencies and Peace (CEP), led by Professor Tejendra Pherali. The students are expected to conduct fieldwork and complete their dissertations this year, and Vanessa shared her insights on fieldwork, highlighting the importance of contextuality, methodological rigour and flexibility, and critical reflection on positionalities.
