On September 3rd, 2024, the Graduate School of Education (GSE) held its first 3-Minute Thesis Competition. This competition, introduced by the University of Queensland in 2008, is globally recognized for its aim to support students in effectively explaining their research and its significance in just 3 minutes, using language accessible to a non-specialist audience. This year marks the first time that Nazarbayev University is conducting this competition.
GSE successfully conducted the competition, with an esteemed panel of judges including Professor Uli Schamiloglu from the School of Sciences and Humanities, General Manager of the Office of the Provost Gulnaz Bulebayeva, Vice Dean for Research of GSE Tsediso Michael Makoelle, and Professors Ahmet Aypay, Bridget Goodman, and Janet Helmer from GSE, as well as Senior Marketing Manager Tan Sholpan Mukhitdinova. The judges rigorously evaluated the presentations and determined the Winner and Runner-Up.
The Winner of the competition was PhD student Gulzhan Rysbekkyzy with her presentation titled “Novice teachers’ perspectives on retention in schools of Kazakhstan”, and the Runner-Up was PhD student Ebenezer Owusu with his presentation titled “Developing a Model for Implementing STEAM Education from Policy to Practice in Emerging Economies: An illustrative case of Ghana”. Additionally, the People’s Choice award, determined by audience votes via QR code, went to PhD student Ebenezer Owusu. Consequently, Ebenezer Owusu will advance to participate in the NU Wildcard Competition on September 10th. Gulzhan Rysbekkyzy will compete in the Nazarbayev University 3-Minute Thesis Competition Final on September 20th.
Congratulations to all participants and the winners!
