Deans from Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan Universities Begin Training at Nazarbayev University

The Academic Leadership Institute: Deans' School, organised by Nazarbayev University's Graduate School of Education in collaboration with Akhmet Yassawi University and the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, officially launched today at Nazarbayev University.

The programme brings together 83 deans from universities across Kazakhstan, along with participants from Kyrgyzstan. The Deans’ School includes 10 modules, with an international module at Shanghai Normal University, offering university leaders the chance to explore global best practices in academic leadership.

The programme opened with remarks from Waqar Ahmad, President of Nazarbayev University and Aida Sagintayeva, Vice Provost for Academic Planning and Budget, Dean of NU GSE. It continued with the first module focused on Education Quality Management.

Throughout this module, participants will take part in sessions on quality standards, accreditation processes, and curriculum development. Special attention will be given to monitoring the quality of educational programmes and collaborating with accreditation agencies. These sessions are being led by faculty and staff from various departments of Nazarbayev University, along with national experts in higher education.

Nazarbayev University's Graduate School of Education continues to lead in advancing professional development and sharing expertise within Kazakhstan’s higher education sector. To date, the school has successfully delivered numerous programmes to more than 28,000 participants. The Academic Leadership Institute: Deans' School further demonstrates Nazarbayev University's commitment to fostering academic leadership.

The Academic Leadership Institute: Deans' School is a comprehensive professional development programme designed to equip higher education leaders with the skills and knowledge needed to drive excellence at their universities. The programme was developed following a thorough needs assessment, which included a review of deans’ job descriptions from Kazakhstani universities and focus group discussions with deans from Kozybayev University, Narxoz University, KIMEP University, and Akhmet Yassawi University. These insights helped shape the programme to address the most significant challenges facing deans today.
