Today, the Graduate School of Education proudly co-hosted the International Scientific and Practical Conference “Current Issues in Educational Assessment: Modern Methods and Intelligent Solutions”, organized by the National Testing Center.
We were especially proud to see NU GSE faculty, alumni, and researchers among the presenters and moderators:
Dr. Anas Hajar shared insights from his study “The Role of Fee-Charging Private Tutoring in High-Stakes Exam Preparation, School Performance, and Access to Education,” exploring how “shadow education” affects equity and learning outcomes.
Dr. Kanat Baikenov, GSE alumnus, presented his research “Determinants of Admission: Exploring Socioeconomic and Demographic Predictors of Access to Higher Education,” emphasizing fairness and inclusion in university admissions.
Dr. Daniel Torrano, GSE faculty member and Vice Dean for Research, moderated the academic sessions, fostering vibrant discussion.
Magzhan Amangazy, GSE alumnus and Chairperson of the Board of the National Center for Education Research and Assessment “Taldau”, presented “National Learning Assessment Tool: From a National Initiative to International Quality Standards,” showcasing Kazakhstan’s progress toward evidence-based assessment.
The conference underscored the importance of collaboration between researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to ensure equitable and high-quality assessment practices in education. We thank our colleagues and students who attended, and special appreciation to our partners at the National Testing Center for co-organizing this meaningful event.
