Disseminating research outcomes with educators in Kazakhstan →

On December 11 school-lyceum #66 of Nur-Sultan held a meeting of the project "ReadX66 - Reader-Teachers Club". The "ReadX66 - Reader-Teachers Club" has launched this school year at School #66. Every month teachers choose a book on education to read and discuss inviting a specialist in the field. NUGSE graduate Gulfarida Myrzakulova (MA in Multilingual Education) is one of the organizers of the initiative.
The meeting of December 11 was devoted to the discussion of the book "Білімге құштарлық". The guest of the meeting was Dr Duishon Shamatov, Associate Professor at Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education, one of the book’s authors. Dr Duishon Shamatov shared findings of his research from the book published in Kazakh language together with his co-author Aigerim Aliaskar. The speaker emphasized that in addition to publishing in high impact factor journals abroad, educators should also engage in discussions with local educators by disseminating the findings of their research. Especially, when the research is about the local education system and educators.
Engaging and thought-provoking discussion was held around such topics as teacher status, new teacher induction and mentoring, parental involvement, teaching and learning, zone of proximal development, the legend “Tas Usta” (Saber-Tooth Curriculum), its role in reform and change, and role of research in schools and various other though provoking topics.
