The challenges of STEM-education in the context of the trilingual education policy are being discussed at the Nazarbayev University


The panel session "Development of STEM is one of the main trends in education" within the framework of the August conference of teachers of the Republic of Kazakhstan is being held at the Nazarbayev University.


During the session organized by the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education are being discussed the issues of teaching STEM disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics), introduction of trilingualism , content and language integrated learning in Kazakhstan schools.

The main participants of the session are teachers who passed the professional development programme organized by the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education.


During the panel session, participants gathered from all 16 regions of Kazakhstan are able to exchange ideas, experience and discuss what kind of support from the society and state authorities is necessary for the pedagogical community to create an educational environment conducive to effective teaching of STEM disciplines and successful introduction of trilingualism.


One of the interesting events during the panel session is the presentation of preliminary research results conducted by the Graduate School of Education. The research revealed the opinion of Kazakhstani teachers on the implementation of the policy of trilingual education.

According to the research, most of school teachers believe that trilingual education positively influences interdisciplinary education and the development of critical thinking of schoolchildren. 

According to the organizers of the session one of its key goals is to create vital dialogue on improving the quality of education as the main factor in the development of a competitive economy.


In addition, the work in the sections of the session makes it possible to identify practice-oriented recommendations for the pedagogical community and to strengthen professional contacts between the participants.


"We regularly organize professional development courses for specialists in the field of education and we became a recognized center uniting people engaged in pedagogical innovation" says Zhanyl Zhontayeva, director of the Department of Continuing Education at the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education.
