Suleyman Demirel University in Kaskelen recently hosted its 7th annual International ConferenceSuleyman Demirel University in Kaskelen recently hosted its 7th annual International Conference on Building Cultural Bridges (ICBCB). The purpose of the conference is to promote intercultural cooperation, collaboration, dialogue and understanding. Foreign and domestic universities, as well as international embassies and UNESCO, were represented in a two-day conference near Almaty.
NUGSE was represented by faculty, research staff and students, who presented on a variety of topics: Mariyam Kamedenova discussed the connections between income and language proficiency; Philip Montgomery gave a talk on the effectiveness of using blogs to teach academic writing in English; Sulushash Kerimkulova highlighted the need for a clearer understanding of how Kazakhstani teachers use (or don't use) instructional technologies; and Assel Kambatyrova presented on teacher's perceptions of the trilingual education policy.
Next year's conference will be held at the International Ataturk Alatoo University in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.
