Professor of Graduate School of Education conducted seminars on research methods in a Winter School for university teachers
Suleyman Demirel University in cooperation with Birmingham University, Thomson Reuters Eastern Europe Ltd., Nazarbayev University, ‘Orleu’ Teacher training center and KIMEP organized Winter School seminar on “Research in Higher Education” for university teachers on January 5 – 9, 2015. One of the main aims of the seminar, which was organized with assistance of Nazarbayev University, National Center for professional development “Orleu” and KIMEP University, was exchange of opinion and experience between teachers and experts in pedagogy and language teaching in higher education institutions. 45 teachers from different regions of Kazakhstan participated in this event.
Assistant Professor of Graduate School of Education Duishon Shamatov presented as one of the main lecturers on five-day seminars, which took place in Suleiman Demirel University in Almaty. During the seminar, the topic about scientific research was covered at length by Duishon Shamatov, including introduction to research methods, qualitative and quantitative methods, data collection instruments, research ethics and so on. Also together with Darya Bukhtoyarova from Thomson Reuters Eastern Europe Ltd, Dr. Shamatov helped seminar participants gain insights into various aspects of conducting research, and having the results published in Thomson Reuters database and the ways of research application into the classroom.
"During the seminars, I was able to share my ideas and experiences of designing and conducting research to participants of the Winter School who came from different universities of Kazakhstan. In particular, I focused on research designs, developing research questions, data collection instruments, and research ethcis. I thoroughly enjoyed participating in this event, as I observed so many committed young scholars who were very keen to engage in discussions about research methods, and I am optimistic that many of them will make great contributions to education and research in Kazakhstan'', -he said.
