Professional standards of teacher education and the prospects for international partnership have been discussed at Graduate School of Education

As a part of the extended meeting of the Advisory Group on teacher education, working within the "Development of strategic directions for Education Reforms in Kazakhstan for 2015-2020" research project, a round table was held at the Graduate School of Education on October, 15 2015. Participating parties were international experts of the project Prof. Colleen McLaughlin and Prof. David Bridges, representatives of the four pilot pedagogical HEIs, I. Altynsarin National Academy of Education, Center of Bologna process and academic mobility of the MES, Center of Excellence of the AEO "NIS".


Further reforms of initial teacher education in Kazakhstan were discusses over the course of the roundtable. More specifically, Professor David Bridges has introduced international examples of the development and use of teachers’ professional standards for further discussion. Moreover, for the purpose of developing new teacher education curriculum and conducting joint research, possible ways of establishing and evolving partnerships between Kazakhstani pilot pedagogical HEIs and UK universities were considered. It has been agreed to include the proposed actions for reforming pre-service teacher preparation to the Roadmap of modernization of teacher education presented by I. Altynsarin National Academy of Education. A project of the Roadmap was developed by the working group which consists of representatives of the four pedagogical HEIs, representing an experimental platform for teacher education reforms.

The longitudinal Project “Development of Strategic Directions for Education Reforms in Kazakhstan for 2015-2020” has been implemented by Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education under the authority of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan. This three-year research project (2013-2015) aims to provide analytical support and development of specific recommendations for effective implementation of the State Programme of Education Development in the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2011-2020, taking into account best international practices.
