Dr. Amanda Ajodhia, Assistant Professor

Dr. Amanda Ajodhia, Assistant ProfessorDr. Ajodhia is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education, Nazarbayev University. She holds a PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education of the University of Toronto, an MA from Ryerson University (Early Childhood Studies), and a BSc (Hons) from the University of Toronto (Psychology Specialist). She has extensive clinical experience as a behavioural therapist and consultant for young people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (including Asperger syndrome), global developmental delays, and speech/language delays.

Anna Sioni CohenMiller, Assistant ProfessorDr. A. S. CohenMiller is an Assistant Professor in the Graduate School of Education at Nazarbayev University. Dr. CohenMiller studied Anthropology and Linguistics at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and earned both a Master’s degree in Bicultural-Bilingual Studies and a PhD in Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching from The University of Texas at San Antonio.

Denise Egéa, Full Professor

Denise Egéa, Full ProfessorDenise Egéa is Professor of Education at Nazarbayev University, Graduate School of Education, (NU GSE), Astana, Kazakhstan, and Professor Emeritus at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, USA. Before joining NU GSE in August 2014, she was W. H. "Bill" LeBlanc Alumni Association Endowed Professor, and Director of the French Education Center for Research and Teacher Education, School of Education at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge, USA.

Bridget Goodman, Assistant Professor

Bridget Goodman, Assistant ProfessorBridget Goodman is an Assistant Professor of Multilingual Education at GSE. Dr. Goodman obtained her M.S.Ed. in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) and her Ph.D. in Educational Linguistics from the University of Pennsylvania in the United States.

Dilrabo Jonbekova, Assistant Professor

Dilrabo Jonbekova, Assistant ProfessorDilrabo Jonbekova is an Assistant Professor at GSE. She obtained her PhD in Education from the University of Cambridge after completing her MPhil in Educational Research from the University of Cambridge and an MA in Management from the University of Leeds in England. Dr. Jonbekova's research interest is in the area of higher education and her current projects relate to the relationship between higher education and labor market outcomes.

Sulushash Kerimkulova, Associate Professor

Sulushash Kerimkulova, Associate ProfessorSulushash Kerimkulova is an Associate Professor in the GSE. Sulushash obtained her diploma of a Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences from the USSR Academy of Pedagogical Sciences, Moscow in 1987.

Aliya Kuzhabekova, Assistant Professor

Aliya Kuzhabekova, Assistant ProfessorAliya Kuzhabekova is an Assistant Professor in the GSE. Aliya obtained her Ph.D. in Higher Education Policy and Administration from the University of Minnesota, USA.

Tsediso Makoelle, Associate Professor

Tsediso Makoelle,  Associate ProfessorTsediso Makoelle is one of the recipients of the prestigious Nelson Mandela scholarship to the UK. He holds a PhD in Inclusive Education from the University of Manchester, UK and a D Ed in Education Management from University of South Africa.

Aisi Li, Assistant ProfessorDr. Aisi Li is an Assistant Professor of Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education. Aisi holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Sichuan University, China. She then studied MSc in Comparative and International Education at the University of Oxford. She received her DPhil in Educational Studies from the University of Oxford in 2012.

At D’Youville College, Buffalo, NY, USA and Ph.D. in Comparative and International Education Finance from the State University of New York at Buffalo, NY, USA.

Aslan Sarinzipov is an International Economist, Candidate of Economic Sciences, Ed.D in Higher Education Management, University of Pennsylvania (USA). He graduated from Kazakh State Economic University, University of Oklahoma (USA), Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (Austria). Internship at Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Duishon Shamatov, Associate Professor

Duishon Shamatov, Associate ProfessorDuishon Alievich Shamatov is an Associate Professor in the GSE. Duishon received his Master of Education degree in Teacher Education from Aga Khan University Institute for Educational Development (AKU-IED) and his master thesis was titled “Reconceptualization of Assessment Practices in a Developing Country Context”.

Michelle Somerton, Assistant Professor

Michelle Somerton, Assistant ProfessorMichelle Somerton is an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Education. She holds a PhD from University of Tasmania, Graduate Certificate in Research, and a Bachelor of Education with Honours. Her teaching has included working as Tutor over four years in ‘Inclusive Practices in Education Settings’ for both Masters and third year Bachelor of Education students. This was in face-to-face and on-line learning environments. Michelle has also co-ordinated a course for third year Bachelor students “Reflective Practitioner Action Researcher’ at the University of Tasmania.

Jason Sparks, Associate Professor

Jason Sparks, Associate ProfessorJason Sparks holds a Ph.D. in Educational Policy Studies from the University of Illinois. He has worked as a secondary school teacher in the US, and has also held university positions at the University of Sheffield in the UK and at Konkuk University in Korea. His publications focus on the globalization of education and the use of ICT to support teaching. In the GSE, he teaches mainly on the M.Sc. Educational Leadership program.

Mir Afzal Tajik, Associate Professor

Mir Afzal Tajik, Associate Professor Mir Afzal Tajik is an Associate Professor at the Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Education (NUGSE). He obtained his PhD from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education, University of Toronto, Canada and Master of Education from the Aga Khan University Institute for Educational development (AKU-IED), Pakistan. Before joining NUGSE in September 2016, Dr. Tajik worked as an Associate Professor and held leadership positions including Interim Director, Associate Director, Head of Graduate Programs, and Head of Outreach Centres and education development programs at AKU-IED. He has also led AKU-IED’s capacity building programs in Afghanistan and Tajikistan.

Daniel Hernández Torrano, Assistant Professor

Daniel Hernández Torrano, Assistant ProfessorDaniel Hernández Torrano is an Assistant Professor in the GSE. Torrano obtained his Ph.D. in Educational Psychology from the University of Murcia in Spain, and has held research positions at the University College London (UK), Universidade do Minho (Portugal), and University of Connecticut (USA).

Kuralay obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Birmingham in the UK and her Master’s degree in Peace and Global Governance from Kyung Hee University in South Korea.

Alfred Burns, InstructorAlfred Burns is an Instructor in the Graduate School of Education. He is involved in designing and teaching M.Sc. Academic English programs for online students as well as carrying out intensive, practice-based learning instruction and workshops for educators.

Deborah Brown, Instructor Deborah Brown is an Instructor in the Graduate School of Education. She received her M.ED. Degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from The College of New Jersey, USA, and has a Specialist Certification in Teaching and Leadership in TESOL from the Ministry of Education, Ontario, Canada.

Philip Montgomery, Instructor

Philip Montgomery, InstructorD. Philip Montgomery is an Instructor of the Graduate School of Education. He obtained M.Ed. in Policy, Organization and Leadership from the University of Illinois. Mr. Montgomery started teaching in Kazakhstan as a Peace Corps volunteer in Petropavlovsk and has taught in schools and universities, focusing on English and Spanish.

Dinara Munbayeva, instructor

Dinara Munbayeva, instructorDinara Munbayeva is an Instructor of the Graduate School of Education. She obtained her degree on The Kazakh Language and Literature from Karaganda State University named after E. Buketov. Ms. Munbayeva started her teaching career at Karaganda Economic University. She received her MEd in Management in Lomonosov Moscow State University. Her research interests include pedagogy, linguistics and terminology.
